Golden Orb Spider at Sungei Buloh Wetland Sanctuary in Singapore

Golden Orb Spider at Sungei Buloh, Singapore
Far, far in the north of Singapore (please disregard the exaggeration considering how small Singapore is) is the Sungei Buloh wetland sanctuary. Reaching the reserve is akin to moving to another country; on the way you are likely to see the not-so-posh buildings, the somewhat poorer folk of Singapore, and real stray animals on the street.
The sanctuary is popular among bird-watchers, and its quite common to see hordes of them lugging their super telephoto lenses around the place real early in the morning. While hosting lots of wading birds, the real residents of the forest here seem to be the large spiders and the monitor lizards, with both seemingly having shed any fear of humans at all. The golden orb spiders and the St.Andrews Cross spiders rule the shrubbery, while the huge monitor lizards casually sun themselves on the road. And if there's a nest somewhere with a somewhat large baby bird, you can be sure you can find it by spotting the birders with the telephoto lenses near it.
