Bali is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Indonesia. In many ways, it is completely unlike the rest of the country - the language, dominant religion, culture and influences, and architecture. People throng to Bali for the beautiful beaches of Kuta and the idyllic yoga and health resorts of Ubud. For the adventurous, there's surfing and diving off the coast. While I did all these in a previous visit to Bali, I made it a point to visit the beautiful temples this trip.
The Tanah Lot temple is one of the most popular and photographed temples in Bali. While it is indeed beautiful, you ought to be prepared to ignore the huge crowds that turn up in the evening everyday, just to catch the sunset. However, if you're the patient type (unlike me) you might just be rewarded with the view of a splendid sunset with a relatively lesser number of people.
